Everything you need to pass the Georgia written knowledge test — exam format, passing score, permit requirements and the local rules examiners focus on.
Important Georgia rules
Joshua's Law
Applicants aged 16 must complete an approved driver education course plus 40 hours of supervised driving.
Super Speeder fees
Driving 75 mph or more on a two-lane road, or 85 mph anywhere, adds a state fee on top of the citation.
Hands-Free Georgia Act
Holding or supporting a phone with any part of your body while driving is prohibited.
Section scoring
Road rules and road signs are scored separately — you must pass both halves.
- Permit age 15
- Exam format 40 questions — 20 road rules and 20 road signs
- Passing score75% in each section — 15 of 20 per section
How to study for the Georgia exam
- Because sections are scored separately, weak sign knowledge alone can fail you.
- Review Georgia's specific passing and school-zone rules.
- Take mixed exams to simulate the two-part structure.
